Much like the timeline, this is a mood board which shows the development of music consumption. With this I am able to understand different way of listening to music from the past of present. With this it tells us the many different ways of listening to music and what I need to think about when looking at ways of showing presenting my video.

Music Consumption
This task has taught me how the consumption of music has developed. The idea that it has come so far is really shocking also piracy is much easier now. I need to think about new technologies such as YouTube when creating my music video and how it will benefit me. I have seen that the internet is probably the most dominant figure when it comes to listening to music. Nowadays it is there at a click of a button so we can decide what we watch rather than having to through t.v or radio. I have to make my video visually appealing so benefit most from this. I could also feature links to i-tunes or my digipak.
Student Discussion

From this task I have learnt other students opinions on music videos mainly the more creative elements like editing and lighting etc. This helps me as I can gain knowledge from them as they could potentially be my partner but if not I can see how they are thinking on the matter

Music video theory
Doing this task was very similar to previous tasks I have done before. Doing this task really helped me to give a detailed understanding of the genre here and how it is different to the others. As I haven't done a genre like this I was able to explore different techniques used as well as theories which will have an impact on my decision on what video I will make as well as what genre to pick

Audience Research
This task was incredibly beneficial for me as it helped me to see how other individuals felt about music videos. I learnt through my survey what others look for in music videos so I have a much better understanding on creating a music video that will appeal to others. Through my results I have learnt that narrative videos are the most appreciated.

Music Video Analysis
Doing this whole task has really helped me to understand the theories behind music videos. It has given me a great insight and good knowledge towards what I will be creating. I understand different techniques I can utilize to achieve the best grade possible. I also know that different genres have different ways of presenting their views which I need to be cautious about.

Genre Research
Mega Task Part 3 on PhotoPeach
Hip hop/Rap- N.W.A create an unsettling vibe in their music videos. Their positioning in the first image represents them as angry and intimidating. They are almost amplifying the idea that black people in America are gangsters and get into trouble with the police. The black stereotype fits in with the Rap genre as it is promoted in the lyrics and videos of their music. In this particular video the police officers are black, this represents the idea of equality as if it would have been a white police officer it could suggest that white people have more power over black.
Alternative Hip-hop/Rock- The Clint Eastwood video is a narrative with a disjunctive relation of visuals to the song. This is a very different genre to the more mainstream of just standard hip-hop or rock so there isn't really any stereotype to the style. The idea that it is animated could be targeted towards children, but the lyrics and concept of the video tell us otherwise as is has more mature themes to it. This could go against codes and conventions as when you think or cartoons stereotypically they are aimed at younger children and less for adults.
Drum and Bass/Dubstep- Blind faith primarily uses a handheld camera shot going through the video. The video has a disjunctive relation of visuals to the song but goes with the genre as usually their videos don't really have any link with the song. The effects model is used in this video through the use of the handheld shot as we feel like we could be there and drawn in. As we are following people it is difficult to distinguish the idea that it is not real because the way it is presented tells us it has a documentary feel. I think the gritty effect of the video having such things as drug taking goes with the stereotype as usually people associate drug users with drum and bass.
K-Pop/Pop- Gangnam Style features a very odd music video. I have noticed it favours the male above female as we see females preforming tasks such as fanning him and generally being the back up dancers could suggest that females are inferior. Laura Mulvey's theory of the male gaze holds true to this video as we see females being targeted in very sexual ways. Females are treated more for "eye candy" rather than an equal character suggesting men have more power in this video.
Pop/Hip hop- The genre of this song is Pop, but it has Hip hop roots. We see this with the clothing, sideways caps and vests represent the hip hop look. Switch also uses the male gaze a Will Smith has five girls dancing around him wearing little clothing. Apart from Will we don't see any other males only females. This again could show the male gaze as the video is mainly intended for a male audience as it is focusing on women,
Overall in this task I have learnt the different representations of genres and what goes and what doesn't. I have seen different theories used and noticed the male gaze is used more in mainstream pop videos rather than the more underground style music. I now understand what type of clothing and characters to use depending on the genre as that is a main thing when making my music video.

Music Video Analysis
The video uses diagetic sound when he smashes the window of the car. This can be linked with the aggresive style of the music. The smash feels like it should be in the song and suits the video. The tracking shot is used to follow the man running. The fisheye lens is used to exaggerate the the emotions of the man running. Using a hand held shot makes the video more gritty and links well with the London grime scene. When he is holding the bat we can see he is the villain in the scene. Strangely the villain is portrayed as the main character and we follow him instead of the more conventional videos in which we follow the hero.
This video is a narrative based video. It uses a rural setting to help get the feel of seclusion. The use of only two characters through majority of the video also helps. Using the woman wearing white personifies a guardian angel as she saves the man from killing himself and brings love back into his life. Using the slow motion when she is running adds to the effect giving the angelic like movement and being the saviour.
Without Me is a performance based narrative video using a comic book style with a tongue in cheek approach. Viewers would see this video in a negotiated approach, they would understand the meanings of the video and take on board the message, but they would neither accept it or reject it as they understand the video was presented as a joke. The parody of Batman is the main narrative and Eminem has used that to fit in with the song name "without me." It represents Eminem as a hero figure, this goes against the usual codes and conventions of the Rap genre as usually they are the enemy and embrace the fact they are not necessarily liked by the media and parents.
Doing this task I have learnt that different elements all contribute to the overall effect of the music video. I have also noticed that usually the video links with what the song is about linking to Godwin's illustrative theory. This has helped me in getting a rough idea of what my music video should be about, also if I wanted to add deeper meanings I can as I have gained knowledge of different genres and I am able to distinguish the different techniques used. Techniques like camera angles can be very effective when presenting a genre as they can be used to represent many different things.

Music Video Theories
Doing this task has made me understand the techniques used the theories behind the representations. I know what camera angles and editing is needed to make the video interesting. My attention to detail has been increased helping me to understand that a piece of clothing or a simple camera angle can make a different impact on each person who views my video.
