For
my music video I am doing Teenagers by My Chemical Romance, my video will be a
Narrative based Performance as I feel it follows the codes and conventions of
this genre. I feel with a Narrative based Performance you are able to combine
the two to create a more powerful video. I chose a song that wouldn’t restrict
me as much as others so the concept of teenagers could be shot in more local
locations.
My video will feature themes such as
boredom, rebellion and a hostile view towards school. It will mainly have an
illustrative approach to it, but with some aspects of amplification using mise
en scene with links to the song lyrics. The idea for our narrative follows a
group of students who are rebelling from their day-to-day repetitive school life.
The performance will be in the narrative, as they will be playing their
instruments in the school area. There will be different locations for them to
play and will be switching back and forth to performance and the students going
about their business. The video will feature either a prologue or epilogue to
bring the timing up to 3 minutes.
The locations I will use will mainly
be in the school, as that will create the best atmosphere. The opening scene
will feature in a classroom before the students decide to destroy everything.
When performing I will use a wide range of locations from the stage to smaller
classrooms.
For clothing, I want my actors to
wear clothes that would make them stand out or not fit in, to help fit the idea
of rebellion. I think having other characters in school uniform would help this
idea as it would give the representation of breaking out of the normal life.
My actors will preferably be a band
as that will be most effective because I can use them for both the performance
side and the narrative side of things. It doesn’t matter who the background
actors are as long as they are teenagers or look like that age. I will like to
include a few teachers, I want them to look quite dominating at first, but as
the video goes on they will lose their power.
